I earned my Ph.D. in psychology from the Ohio State University and completed my clinical internship at University of Virginia Medical Center. I worked at an orthopedic hospital for children and my dissertation was based on a study I designed to test an intervention for improving child coping following orthopedic surgery and prolonged hospitalization in a sample of chronically ill children. I met my wife, Kiki Litzie at the University of Virginia where she was enrolled in the graduate program in clinical psychology. After we were married in the summer of 1982 we moved to Baltimore where I completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics and Child Psychiatry. I worked as a consultant in inner city Baltimore schools, at the Child Psychiatry Clinic, and delivered inpatient consultation to children in the burn, medical, surgical and shock trauma units. I was then selected to run the Behavioral and Developmental Pediatric Clinic and had the chance to train and supervise a large number of pediatric and psychiatric residents.

In 1984 I was recruited to be a core faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Education Program located in Fresno, California. We moved to California and I taught in the Pediatric Residency program for 20 years, eventually moving from the county hospital to Valley Children's Hospital and serving as the Director of Research and Ethics. Over 20 years ago, my wife and I started a small private practice and began to see children, adolescents and adults for assessment and treatment. Our practice grew quickly and we developed specialized expertise in evaluating and treating individuals with learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, tourette syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders and other neuro-behavioral conditions. We continue to provide services for a wide range of situations including divorce, sleep disorders, enuresis/encopresis, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, adaptation to adoption and test taking anxiety. To learn more about the services we offer, please feel review our Comprehensive EvaluationConsultation and Advocacy, and Counseling and Psychotherapy section.

We are very family-centered and our background is influenced by years of working in a developmentally sensitive manner with a highly diversified group of individuals. Our personal philosophy is that every person deserves to be treated as we ourselves would appreciate being treated. We listen carefully to each individual's unique story and develop a list of potentially targetable issues that could be addressed to help alleviate distress and improve function.
